Knife attack in Braunschweig leaves one injured after road rage escalates
A violent confrontation between two drivers in Braunschweig on March 19, 2026, left one man injured and another in custody. The incident began as a verbal argument before escalating into a knife attack on Saarstraße. Police have since launched a criminal investigation into attempted homicide. The altercation unfolded when two motorists became involved in a heated dispute. Tensions quickly rose, leading to a physical fight. During the struggle, the 33-year-old suspect drew a knife and stabbed the 39-year-old victim in the head and neck.
A bystander witnessed the attack and intervened, tackling the assailant to the ground. The witness held the suspect until officers arrived at the scene. The victim was rushed to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities confirmed the suspect was under the influence of alcohol and possibly narcotics at the time. The following day, March 20, a judge ordered the man to be remanded in pretrial detention after prosecutors filed a request. He now faces charges of attempted homicide.
The victim received medical treatment for his wounds and is expected to recover. The suspect remains in custody while the investigation continues. Police have not released further details about the ongoing case.
