Koblenz's Südallee intersection to close for major road upgrades after Easter
A major road closure will begin in Koblenz after Easter. The intersection of Südallee and Ludwigstraße will shut completely from Tuesday, April 8 until mid-June. The work forms part of a wider effort to modernise the entire Südallee while protecting its trees and historic features. The full closure will allow crews to rebuild the roadway from the ground up. Fresh asphalt will be laid, and new drainage systems for rainwater will be installed. Beneath the surface, Energienetze Mittelrhein will lay updated supply lines.
Paving work will also take place on the sidewalks and nearby parking areas. Despite the disruption, access to neighbouring buildings and the Evangelisches Stift parking garage will remain open. Ludwigstraße will become a dead-end on both sides of Südallee during the project. Drivers will follow clearly marked detours around the site. The city has stressed that the work aims to improve infrastructure while maintaining the area's character.
The closure runs from April 8 to mid-June, with detours in place for motorists. Once complete, the upgraded intersection will feature new drainage, resurfaced roads, and preserved heritage elements. Access to local buildings and parking will stay unaffected throughout.
