Koch Rajbongshi **community** demands justice after 35 years of struggle
The All Koch Rajbongshi Students' Union (AKRSU) has recently raised a series of long-standing political, cultural, and socio-economic demands, highlighting the struggles of the Koch Rajbongshi community over the past 35 years.
The community has long sought the promotion and preservation of their language, culture, and tribal status, as well as the demand for a Kamatapur state. The AKRSU has specifically called for special preference for Koch Rajbongshi students and youths in education and employment sectors.
The union has expressed frustration with development councils and autonomous councils, alleging that they have not benefited the Koch Rajbongshi community at large. In an effort to foster peace, the AKRSU demands respectful dialogue with the Koch Rajbongshi Liberation Organization (KLO) for a peace accord.
The AKRSU has put forward 11 key demands, including the organization of a tripartite meeting, the revival of the Kamatapur state demand, and the restoration of Scheduled Tribe (ST) status. The community was granted ST status in 1996 but had it withdrawn after six months due to political hurdles.
The AKRSU's demands reflect the Koch Rajbongshi community's desire for recognition, preservation of their identity, and equal opportunities. The union seeks constructive dialogue with the government and other stakeholders to address these long-standing issues.
