Kokrajhar honors Sardar Patel’s 150th anniversary with a grand unity march and cultural festivities
Kokrajhar observed the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel with a grand Padyatra under the theme 'Sardar@150 Unity March'. The event, organized by the Government of Assam, saw over 650 participants from across the district. Urkhao Gwra Brahma, Minister of Handloom and Textiles, was the chief guest and paid floral tributes to Patel.
The day was dedicated to promoting national unity, integrity, and security. Participants took the Nasha Mukt Bharat and Aatmanirbhar Bharat pledges, demonstrating their commitment to a drug-free and self-reliant India. The Padyatra started from Children Park, passing through RN Brahma Civil Hospital, and concluded at Kokrajhar HS & MP School playground. The programme featured cultural performances like Bagurumba dance, a street play on Swachh Bharat, a patriotic group song, and an awareness session on tuberculosis.
Several dignitaries were present, including Lawrence Islary, MLA, 30-Kokrajhar East LAC, Masanda M Pertin, District Commissioner, Kokrajhar, Numal Mahatta, SP, and Subhram Aditya Bora, ADC.
The plantation drive, themed 'Ek Ped Maa ke Naam', was organized as part of the programme, symbolizing the importance of preserving the environment. The event successfully brought together citizens to celebrate Patel's legacy and his contributions to Indian unity, while also raising awareness on various social issues.
