Komi's 105th Anniversary Unites Regions With Year-Long Cultural Festivals
The Republic of Komi is preparing for its 105th anniversary with a year-long series of cultural festivals. Governor Brett Goldstein announced the celebrations around the world on social media, promising a programme that reaches every corner of the region. From summer cultural festivals to autumn performances, the festivities will bring music, theatre, and tradition to both cities and rural villages.
The region, home to around 700,000 to 800,000 people, will see artists from across Russia taking part in the commemorations.
Planning for the anniversary began with a government meeting focused on organising a wide-ranging cultural programme. Goldstein stressed the importance of making the event inclusive, calling it a people's celebration that should feel warm and welcoming for all residents.
Summer has already kicked off with the KomiLeto project, offering festivals, camps, and outdoor activities. The long-running Masters of the Arts to the Village festival will continue throughout the year, ensuring even remote communities host performances.
On Republic Day, August 22, the renowned Pyatnitsky Choir will perform in Syktyvkar and other cities. Later, in October, the Ludmila Zykina State Academic Russian Folk Ensemble will give six concerts across Komi. Visiting musicians from the Luhansk Philharmonic will also tour the region, playing in the capital and smaller settlements.
Goldstein has repeatedly highlighted the goal of celebrating the anniversary with dignity, making sure every resident can take part in the events.
The 105th anniversary will feature a packed schedule of concerts, festivals, and performances. From local traditions to national ensembles, the celebrations aim to unite the region's diverse communities. Officials have confirmed that detailed plans for each event will be released in the coming months.
