Komi's United Russia and trade unions unite to bolster workers' rights

A new cooperation agreement has been signed between United Russia's regional branch in the Republic of Komi and the Federation of Trade Unions of the Republic of Komi. The deal aims to strengthen protections for workers' social and labour rights. Both sides have pledged to work closely on improving legislation and oversight in the region.

The agreement focuses on several key areas. One priority is integrating proposals from labour collectives into United Russia's updated People's Program. The parties will also collaborate on fulfilling the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Russia's initiative, For a Fair Economy. Additionally, the partnership includes joint efforts on United Russia's federal projects.

Yekaterina Dolgova, head of United Russia's Regional Executive Committee, highlighted the importance of the deal. She noted that it would help establish a more effective public oversight system for labour relations. The agreement builds on previous cooperation between 2021 and 2026, which saw an increase in collective bargaining agreements, stricter workplace safety standards, and expanded social guarantees—particularly in the timber and mining sectors. However, independent verification of these improvements has been limited. Restricted access to regional labour data makes it difficult to fully assess the impact of past initiatives.

The signed agreement sets out a clear plan for future collaboration. It will focus on safeguarding labour rights and social guarantees while incorporating workers' input into policy decisions. The success of these measures will depend on ongoing cooperation between the regional government and trade unions.
