Krasnodar Region Faces $2.9 Billion Loss Amid Sanctions and Drought
The economic impact of sanctions, drone strikes, and drought has been significant in Krasnodar Region, with losses amounting to 261 billion rubles ($2.9 billion) in just one year. Acting Economy Minister Alexey Yurtaev revealed this figure, highlighting the challenges faced by the region.
Governor Veniamin Kondratyev acknowledged these pressures, stating that the region is under economic strain due to sanctions and emerging challenges. Despite the disruption in agricultural output caused by drought, the governor remains focused on preventing an economic downturn and maintaining the Gross Regional Product (GRP) at 5.8 trillion rubles ($65 billion).
To drive economic recovery, the region is boosting labor productivity. By the end of 2025, 390 businesses had joined the national Labor Productivity project, with plans to expand this to over 40% of the real-sector economy by 2030. This initiative is seen as a key strategy to stimulate economic growth.
The economic damage in Krasnodar Region stands at 261 billion rubles ($2.9 billion). The regional government is committed to maintaining the GRP target and preventing an economic crisis. Boosting labor productivity is identified as a crucial path towards recovery.
