Krasnoyarsk Welcomes a New Catholic Women's Monastery by 2026
A Catholic women's monastery will soon open in Krasnoyarsk after the city approved plans for a religious community to use a private cottage. The property, located in the Bobrovy Log district, was recently acquired and will house nuns from the Sisters of Mercy of St. Charles Borromeo. This marks a new phase for the group, which has worked in the region for decades.
The monastery will occupy a 250-square-metre house on a 1,700-square-metre plot at 37 Torgovaya Street. The building was listed for sale in 2021, suggesting the community acquired it shortly afterwards. City officials have now granted formal permission for its use as a religious site.
The location sits between Sverdlovskaya Street and the local fan park. Currently, community members already live on the property. By 2026, four nuns from the Sisters of Mercy will be active there, continuing their social and charitable work. The order has operated in Krasnoyarsk since 1996, running projects that support vulnerable groups. Their presence in the city predates the monastery's establishment by nearly three decades.
The new monastery will expand the Sisters of Mercy's capacity for charitable activities in Krasnoyarsk. With official approval secured, the community can now develop the site for religious and social purposes. The project builds on their long-standing work in the region.
