Krasnoyarsk’s top official nominated to lead city government
Sergei Vereshchagin, the 50-year-old chairman of Krasnoyarsk Krai’s government, has been put forward as a candidate for head of Krasnoyarsk urban district. His nomination came from the regional branch of United Russia, the ruling political party. The decision now rests with Governor Mikhail Kotyukov, who will review the proposal before the year’s end.
Born in Zelenogorsk, Vereshchagin studied economics and enterprise management at Krasnoyarsk State Technical University. His early career included a stint in banking before he joined the mayor’s office in 2006, where he managed investment projects.
If approved, Vereshchagin would transition from regional leadership to municipal governance. His background in economics, investment, and public administration aligns with the demands of the role. The city council will make the final decision based on the governor’s recommendation.
