Kuala Lumpur MPs push for DBKL reform with new transparency bill

A group of Kuala Lumpur MPs from the government bench have submitted a Private Member’s Bill to amend the Federal Capital Act 1960. The proposed changes aim to improve transparency, accountability, and representation within Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL). The Bill was tabled by Setiawanga MP Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad on the final day of the current Dewan Rakyat sitting. If passed, it would establish a formal council for DBKL, chaired by the mayor and including two nominated members from each Kuala Lumpur MP. The proposed amendment seeks to formalise a council structure within DBKL, ensuring greater resident representation. The Bill now awaits further debate and approval in Parliament before any changes take effect.
