Kuala Lumpur's New Monthly Meetings Bring City Hall Closer to Residents

Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) is launching a new initiative to tackle local issues more efficiently. Starting in April, monthly mayoral consultation meetings will take place in each of the city's 11 parliamentary constituencies. The move aims to bring decision-making closer to residents and speed up problem-solving on the ground.

The new approach will see DBKL Branch Offices take on a stronger role. Instead of relying solely on headquarters, key capabilities will be extended directly into communities. This shift is designed to cut delays and improve responsiveness to local concerns.

Each meeting will be led by DBKL's executive director, representing the mayor, alongside the constituency's Member of Parliament as co-chair. By involving both city officials and elected representatives, the sessions intend to bridge gaps between administration and residents. Relevant agencies and stakeholders will also join the discussions. Their input is expected to help identify issues more clearly and develop practical solutions. The city administration has emphasised the need to stay in tune with daily realities faced by Kuala Lumpur's residents. The 11 constituencies covered include Batu, Segambut, Bukit Bintang, Cheras, Hulu Langat, Kapar, Serdang, Putrajaya, Labuan, Sepang, and Gombak. While specific challenges for each area have not yet been detailed, the meetings will address local priorities as they arise.

The first round of meetings begins in April 2024. By holding regular consultations in every constituency, DBKL plans to resolve issues faster and with greater accuracy. The initiative marks a direct effort to align city services more closely with the needs of residents.
