Kurdish solidarity march in Halle cancelled due to low turnout
A planned Kurdish demonstration in Halle (Saale) was cancelled on Saturday after only a small number of participants arrived. Organisers shifted the event to a stationary rally next weekend. Meanwhile, an unexpected issue with a police vehicle caused a brief disruption nearby. The event was meant to be a solidarity march through Halle’s city centre for the besieged region of Rojava. However, with just 20 people gathered, organisers decided to call off the procession. Instead, they announced a stationary rally on the market square for next Saturday afternoon.
Around ten police patrol cars and service vehicles were stationed outside the State Museum of Prehistory during the afternoon. Among them, an unmarked police car failed to start, prompting officers to call for roadside assistance. The ADAC’s ‘Yellow Angels’ arrived quickly to resolve the problem. The traffic supervision unit from HAVAG, Halle’s public transport company, was also present. Their role was to manage tram rerouting in case the demonstration had gone ahead as planned.
The cancelled march will now take place as a static gathering on the market square. Police handled the unexpected vehicle issue without further delays. Authorities had prepared for potential traffic changes, though the event’s low turnout kept disruptions to a minimum.
