Kuwait and ASEAN forge stronger media ties in landmark cooperation push
Kuwait and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) are strengthening their ties, with a focus on media collaboration. Kuwait values ASEAN's influence in politics, economy, and culture, and its status as an emerging economic bloc. This was discussed in a recent meeting attended by ASEAN ambassadors and senior Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) officials.
The meeting, led by Acting Director-General Mohammed Al-Manaei, explored ways to deepen media cooperation. ASEAN ambassadors expressed enthusiasm for strategic partnerships with KUNA, commending its professional role in addressing regional and international issues and advancing mutual cultural understanding. KUNA already has active bilateral ties with several ASEAN news agencies, including Indonesia's Antara, Malaysia's Bernama, and Vietnam's VNA.
The discussion highlighted the importance of sustained dialogue and joint media events to showcase cooperation between Kuwait and ASEAN. Representatives from Indonesia and Myanmar participated in a KUNA conference, led by their respective ambassadors, Lena Maryana and U Chan Aye. KUNA seeks to broaden this cooperation to include all ASEAN member states through enhanced news sharing, joint initiatives, and training exchanges. The agency aims to serve as a key media platform supporting Kuwait's partnership with ASEAN and raising awareness of its significance.
Kuwait's commitment to strengthening ties with ASEAN was further reflected in its accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia. With both sides eager to deepen media collaboration, the future looks promising for Kuwait-ASEAN relations, with KUNA playing a pivotal role in fostering understanding and cooperation.
