Kuwait and Iraq advance talks to define disputed maritime borders
Kuwait and Iraq have held talks to finalise their maritime borders beyond Marker No. 162. The discussions took place under international law and the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to resolving the issue through regular meetings.
The Kuwaiti delegation was led by Deputy Foreign Minister Ambassador Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. His Iraqi counterpart, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Bilateral Affairs Ambassador Mohammed Hussein Bahr Al-Uloom, headed the Iraqi team. The negotiations focused on demarcating maritime borders in line with established legal frameworks.
The talks mark another step in settling the maritime borders between Kuwait and Iraq. Future sessions will build on the current discussions, guided by international law. The outcome will determine the final demarcation beyond Marker No. 162.
