Kuwait, ICRC Strengthen Partnership in Humanitarian Efforts
The State of Kuwait and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) held their fourth high-level strategic dialogue, chaired by Kuwait's Deputy Foreign Minister Ambassador Sheikh Jarrah Al-Jaber and ICRC President Mirjana Eger. The session saw significant agreements and reaffirmations of their partnership.
The Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) signed a $2 million grant with the ICRC to improve healthcare access for vulnerable communities in Sudan. KRCS Chairman Khaled Al-Mughamis highlighted Kuwait's ongoing relief efforts, including recent flights carrying food, tents, and essential supplies to support displaced families in Sudan.
The dialogue reviewed the ICRC's role in addressing the issue of Kuwaiti prisoners and missing persons, and their joint efforts to implement UN Security Council Resolution 2474 on missing persons in armed conflicts. The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development also extended funding to the ICRC for a project providing health services and clean water in Somalia.
President Eger praised Kuwait's leading humanitarian role and long-standing cooperation with the KRCS, particularly in crisis zones like Gaza, Syria, and Yemen.
The session concluded with the signing of a joint declaration and two grant agreements, further cementing the deep-rooted partnership between Kuwait and the ICRC. Their shared commitment to upholding international humanitarian law and protecting civilians during conflicts was reaffirmed.
