Kuwait tightens family sponsorship rules with new salary requirements

Kuwait has introduced new rules for foreign residents looking to bring family members into the country. The changes, outlined in executive regulations by Sheikh Fahd Al-Yousef, set a minimum monthly salary of 800 Kuwaiti dinars—around $2,600—for eligibility. However, certain professions are exempt from this requirement.

The updated residence law ties the salary requirement directly to the profession listed on the foreign worker’s permit. Those earning below 800 Kuwaiti dinars per month will generally not qualify to sponsor family members. The rule aims to standardise conditions for family reunification.

The new regulations provide clearer guidelines for foreign workers in Kuwait. Those earning above the set amount can now proceed with family sponsorship applications. Meanwhile, exempted professionals and special cases will be assessed individually by the relevant authorities.
