Kyrgyz President condemns aggressive electricity raids on local businesses
Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov has spoken out against harsh electricity conservation raids in Bishkek and Osh, targeting late-night venues like nightclubs and banquet halls, which drew criticism for their excessive nature and impact on businesses.
Japarov addressed the mayors of both cities, expressing concern over the raids' severity. Officials, whose names have not been made public, led the operations that also targeted businesses like fast-food chains and cafés, evacuating people from these establishments. Business owners reported rude treatment and power and water cuts without proper explanation.
The President criticized the raids, stating that they went too far. He warned against further extremes and demanded that small, law-abiding businesses be left undisturbed. Japarov also emphasized that energy conservation should start with government agencies and institutions that keep their lights on around the clock.
The raids, aimed at conserving electricity, have raised concerns about their impact on local businesses. Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov has called for a more balanced approach, ensuring that small, law-abiding businesses are not unduly affected.
