KZN SASSA Office Leads Digital Transformation, Completes Biometric Registration
The KZN regional office of the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has made significant strides in modernising its income verification process, with Thamo Mzobe, the regional head, reporting substantial progress. The office has successfully implemented a digital income verification system and completed biometric registration of all social grant beneficiaries in the region.
The digital transformation began with the deployment of 38 officials to review 184,828 flagged cases. So far, 77,287 cases (77 percent) have been finalised, with the remaining 107,541 expected to be completed by the end of the financial year. This process has been facilitated by migrating 748 officials to the Beneficiary Biometric Enrolment (BBE) platform and equipping all 82 local offices with fingerprint scanners. Additionally, 901 officials have been trained to operate the new system.
The Portfolio Committee on Social Development has acknowledged the KZN regional office's efforts, praising the progress made in enhancing the efficiency and security of social assistance services in the province.
To further engage with the public, the committee will host a public engagement session at the Lindiwe Tshabalala Hall in Emandeni at 10:00 AM. This session aims to gather experiences and concerns about social assistance services in the province, ensuring that the improvements made align with the needs of the beneficiaries.
