Lamont kicks off third-term bid as GOP field stays unsettled

Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont has begun his campaign for a third term, while the republican party's field for the gubernatorial nomination remains uncertain. Lamont, a democrat, launched his bid on Friday, facing a primary challenge from within his party and a potential republican contender weighing her options.

Lamont, who took office in 2019, highlighted his administration's record in his campaign announcement. He pointed to improvements in healthcare access, housing availability, and energy affordability. The governor credited his team with making significant positive changes for the state during his tenure.

On the republican party side, former mayor Erin Stewart is contemplating a run for the nomination. Meanwhile, Greenwich state Sen. Ryan Fazio has already declared his candidacy. Notably, a search for republican candidates did not yield any results, suggesting a lack of clarity in the republican party's nomination process.

Lamont's re-election campaign is now officially underway, with a promise to 'fight for Connecticut values'. The democratic primary will feature a challenge from Rep. Josh Elliott. Meanwhile, the republican party field remains uncertain, with Stewart considering a run and Fazio already in the race, but no clear front-runner yet emerging.
