Lancaster School District Aims to Save Millions with New Construction Plan

The School District of Lancaster is streamlining its construction plans, aiming to save millions while addressing community needs. The latest phase involves building a new Wheatland Middle School and consolidating Price and Alexander Hamilton elementary schools into one. The district hopes to save about $50 million and reduce yearly operating expenses.

The new construction phase will bring improved facilities and age group separations, benefiting students and staff alike. The district will move the community garden to another location on the parcel to accommodate the changes. To keep the community informed, three additional community sessions have been scheduled for Price, Hamilton, and Martin families.

Parents have expressed concerns about potential transportation issues, overcrowding, and the loss of the community garden at Hamilton. The school board will address these worries at a public hearing, to be held after a 15-day notice period and at least three months before voting on the changed plan. In previous meetings, parents raised issues about student safety, traffic congestion, and construction impacts on school operations. Families have requested clear communication, scheduled orientations, walk-throughs, and community involvement in moving campuses.

The School District of Lancaster is committed to improving its facilities while keeping the community engaged. The district will hold a public hearing to address parent concerns and will vote on the changed construction plan after a thorough review period. The next school board meeting is scheduled for Nov. 5, with the public invited to view and comment on the district website.
