Landshut runoff elections set for 22 March with tight candidate races

Runoff elections for district administrator and mayor will be held on 22 March 2026 in parts of the Landshut district. Voters will choose between several candidates, including Peter Dreier (CSU), Michael Weinzierl (Greens), and Barbara Eder (SPD). Ballot preparations are now underway across affected municipalities.

Ballot papers for the runoff will arrive in local town halls later this week. Officials will then process and distribute them without delay.

Voters who previously requested absentee ballots via QR code may receive runoff materials automatically. Those who did not select this option can still apply for postal voting using their original polling notification. If the deadline for absentee requests passes, residents must vote in person at their assigned polling station on Sunday.

Anyone who has lost their polling notification will need to show a valid ID, such as a passport or national identity card, to cast their vote.

The runoff follows the initial round of voting, with key positions still to be decided. Candidates from the CSU, Greens, SPD, Free Voters, and AfD remain in contention. Polling stations will open on 22 March, with results expected later that evening.
