Landshut's digital practice ballot helps voters avoid election mistakes

Landshut District has introduced a digital practice ballot to assist voters in preparing for the upcoming County Council elections. The interactive tool allows residents to test their voting choices before the official election on March 8, 2026. It aims to clarify how votes are allocated and whether ballots remain valid under local rules.

The election will feature 11 party lists with over 600 candidates vying for seats on the new County Council. Each voter will have 70 votes to distribute among the candidates. The practice ballot helps ensure these votes are assigned correctly, reducing the risk of errors on the real ballot.

The tool is particularly useful for first-time voters unfamiliar with local election procedures. It explains how marking a party list influences the ballot and confirms whether the vote stays valid. However, the system does not provide historical data on how the 70 votes were split among the top three parties in past elections.

Postal voting will commence on Rose Monday, February 16, 2026, when municipalities start sending ballots to eligible voters. This provides residents with extra time to review their choices before the official polling date.

The digital practice ballot offers voters a way to double-check their decisions before casting their votes. With 70 votes to allocate and 11 party lists competing, the tool helps prevent mistakes. Official voting will take place on March 8, 2026, with postal ballots available from mid-February.
