Largest contract for H145M helicopters inked between Airbus Helicopters and the German military
The German Bundeswehr has placed a significant order for the H145M multi-role military helicopter, marking the largest order ever placed for this model. The contract, announced under the hashtag #MakingMissionsPossible, includes 82 helicopters, with 57 destined for the German Army and 5 for the Luftwaffe's special forces.
The order includes 62 firm orders and 20 options, providing the Bundeswehr with the flexibility to expand its fleet in the future. The contract also includes seven years of support and services from Airbus Helicopters, ensuring the helicopters remain operational and well-maintained.
The H145M is renowned for its versatility, capable of being reconfigured for various mission capabilities within minutes. Powered by two Safran Arriel 2E engines, the helicopter boasts a maximum speed of around 324 km/h and a cruise speed near 262 km/h. It is equipped with the Helionix digital avionics suite, which includes a high-performance 4-axis autopilot, aiding hovering precision and stability, essential for mission-critical tasks.
The H145M is also equipped with the HForce weapon management system, allowing it to carry a wide range of weapons and sensors. This versatility makes the H145M suitable for troop transport, medevac, reconnaissance, and light combat support missions.
The H145M has accumulated more than seven million flight hours globally, demonstrating its reliability and robustness. Countries such as Hungary, Poland, and Belgium have already recognised the helicopter's value, with Hungary operating one of the most modern helicopter fleets in Europe, and Poland recently selecting the H145M to enhance its transport, combat support, and reconnaissance capabilities. The Belgian Army is also transitioning from NH90 to H145M helicopters, with France potentially joining them in this transition.
This significant order by the German Bundeswehr underscores the H145M's reputation as a versatile and reliable multi-role military helicopter, capable of meeting the demands of modern military operations.
The contract with the German Bundeswehr extends to finance and support for the H145M fleet, as Airbus Helicopters provides seven years of maintenance and services. This flexible agreement includes option orders besides the 62 firm orders, potentially expanding the Bundeswehr's aerospace assets in the future.
