Lebanese Ambassador Maher Kheir steps down as Francophone chair in Ghana
The French Embassy in Accra bid farewell to Lebanese Ambassador Maher Kheir, who has stepped down as chair of the Francophone Ambassadors Group (GAF). A reception was held in his honour, attended by fellow Francophone ambassadors, Ghanaian officials, and representatives of educational and cultural institutions.
Ambassador Kheir, who has served as chair of the GAF, was praised for his leadership and commitment by French Ambassador Diarra Dime-Labille. She highlighted his efforts in strengthening the Francophonie's presence in Ghana and advancing Ghana's progress towards full membership in the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF).
The event concluded with an exchange of symbolic gifts and group photographs, marking Ambassador Kheir's departure. In his farewell speech, Ambassador Kheir expressed his gratitude for the support of Ambassador Dime-Labille and suggested she would assume the interim chairmanship of the GAF until a new chair is elected. A message of appreciation from the OIF Representative in West Africa, Thi Hoang Mai, was also read aloud, commending Ambassador Kheir's impactful leadership.
Ambassador Marie-Ange Lukiana has been named as Ambassador Kheir's interim successor as chair of the GAF. The Francophone community in Ghana looks forward to her leadership as they continue to strengthen ties and promote the French language and culture.
