Lederhaus Opens in Bingen, Reviving a Family’s Leather Legacy After Flood Loss

A new leather shop, Lederhaus, has opened in Bingen, offering a wide selection of handcrafted goods. Launched on November 6, it is the fifth store for owner Shamshad Ahmad, who first trained as a lawyer before shifting focus to the family's leather business. The business builds on a family tradition that began with a leather bag factory in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Ahmad's latest venture follows the permanent closure of his Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler shop after the devastating 2021 floods. The Bingen location now joins existing stores in Ribnitz-Damgarten, Cochem, Rüdesheim, and a previous outlet in the same city. The store's arrival adds to Bingen's retail offerings and replaces the lost Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler location. With five shops now in operation, Ahmad's leather business remains firmly rooted in the leather trade. The city's support and the shop's prime spot suggest strong potential for local and tourist customers.
