Debate on Special Funds: Reichinnek Attacks Greens - Left Party slams Greens over 2025 constitutional fund misuse claims

Left Party leader Heidi Reichinnek has criticised the Greens for their role in passing a 2025 constitutional amendment. She claims the change delivered almost no benefits for German citizens. Her remarks also targeted the government's handling of a special infrastructure fund.

A year ago, the Greens helped secure the two-thirds majority needed to push through the amendment. Reichinnek now argues that their support allowed the government to use the fund for filling budget gaps instead of its stated purpose.

She dismissed the fund as a financial tool with little impact on climate protection or public projects. According to her, the Greens would have no influence over how the money is actually spent. Records show that in its first two years, the fund did not directly finance climate or public investment schemes. For example, a 2025 grant of €1.93 million for Calau's transport upgrades came from Brandenburg's state programme, not the federal infrastructure fund.

Reichinnek's criticism highlights concerns over the fund's transparency and effectiveness. The Greens' involvement in its approval has come under scrutiny, with no clear evidence yet of its intended benefits. The debate over its use is likely to continue as spending decisions unfold.
