Left Unity sweeps JNU student elections, securing all top posts in 2025
Left Unity has maintained its stronghold on Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) after a resounding victory in the 2025 Students' Union election. Aditi Mishra, their candidate, secured the President post, further cementing the party's long-standing leadership in the university.
The election, held on November 6, 2025, saw a significant turnout of 67%, with around 9,043 students eligible to vote. In a close race, Aditi Mishra emerged victorious, defeating her rival Vikas Patel of the RSS-backed ABVP by a margin of 449 votes. This win not only secured Mishra the presidency but also allowed Left Unity to retain all four central panel posts. Kizhakoot Gopika Babu was elected vice-president, Sunil Yadav general secretary, and Danish Ali joint secretary.
The ABVP, which had made a comeback in the previous year's election polls, faced a setback this year. Their loss signals a shift in student politics at JNU, with Left Unity continuing its tradition of dominance on the campus.
The Left Unity's victory in the JNU Students' Union election reaffirms their dominance and maintains their long-standing leadership in the university. With all central panel posts retained, they look set to continue their influence in shaping student politics and campus life at JNU.
