Israel's Ambassador: Left-wing Anti-Semitism Most Dangerous - Left-wing antisemitism surges as Berlin Jews fear open displays of faith

Former German President Joachim Gauck and Israel's ambassador to Germany, Ron Prosor, have both sounded the alarm on the rising tide of antisemitism, particularly from the political left. The issue has become so pressing that Prosor has advised Jews to be cautious when displaying their faith in certain areas of Berlin. Meanwhile, a controversial cancellation at the Flanders Festival in Ghent has sparked sharp criticism and accusations of antisemitism.

Prosor, in a recent interview, warned that Israel is increasingly demonized and delegitimized, with tangible consequences for Jews worldwide. He considers left-wing antisemitism particularly dangerous as it often masquerades as legitimate Israel news, blurring the line between free speech and incitement. Prosor pointed to universities and theaters across Europe, including Germany, as hotspots for this trend.

The cancellation of a performance by the Munich Philharmonic under Israeli conductor Lahav Shani at the Flanders Festival in Ghent has highlighted this issue. The cancellation, due to Shani's role with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, sparked sharp criticism and accusations of antisemitism in Germany. Many Jews in Germany now live in fear, with some even considering purchasing property in Israel and questioning the safety of visiting Berlin.

Both Joachim Gauck and Ron Prosor have called for a more determined fight against antisemitism, regardless of its origin. Prosor's warning about the dangers of left-wing antisemitism and the cancellation at the Flanders Festival serve as stark reminders of the pressing need for action. The safety and security of Germany's Jewish community hang in the balance.
