Legendary homeopathic manufacturer Hanosan shuts down after 76 years of production

Hanosan, a long-standing homeopathic manufacturer based in Garbsen, Lower Saxony, has entered liquidation. The company, which once produced around 200 specialty pharmaceuticals, filed for insolvency in December 2024 after years of financial struggle. Despite generating low single-digit million revenues, operating losses forced its closure just over a year later.

Founded in 1948, Hanosan built a reputation for its in-house production of mother tinctures and dilutions. Potentization was carried out manually, setting it apart in the homeopathic sector. At its height, the firm employed around 30 people and also worked as a contract manufacturer for other companies.

Insolvency proceedings began in February but ultimately failed to save the business. Authorities have now ordered a full recall of all medicinal product batches, though no health risks have been identified. Dietary supplements and cosmetics under the Hanosan name remain unaffected by the recall. Customers with concerns about side effects or product quality have been directed to Zicura Pharma Solutions. The company was officially designated to handle such reports following Hanosan’s liquidation in early 2025.

The liquidation marks the end of Hanosan’s 76-year history in Garbsen. All remaining medicinal stock has been withdrawn from the market, while non-pharmaceutical products continue to be available. The insolvency process has now concluded, with no further operations expected from the former manufacturer.
