Legislative Assembly Supports Initiative to Grant Bogorodsk the Title of Labor Valor

The Legislative Assembly of Nizhny Novgorod Region has requested that Bogorodsk be granted the honorary title of 'City of Labor Valor'. The appeal was sent to President Vladimir Putin after lawmakers unanimously backed the proposal on December 18. Officials argue that the city’s wartime contributions deserve formal state recognition.

Archival records highlight the extraordinary efforts of Bogorodsk’s workers during the Great Patriotic War. Their dedication, according to Speaker Yevgeny Lyulin, played a crucial role in the Victory and should be preserved in historical memory.

In the early stages of the war, Bogorodsk became a key industrial hub. Evacuated factories from western Soviet regions relocated there, including Repair Base No. 6, which later transformed into the Bogorodsk Mechanical Plant. Within months, the facility restored hundreds of combat vehicles and went on to supply the front with over 3,500 armoured vehicles and other essential equipment.

The plant’s workforce also funded two armoured trains, *Pravda* and *Zvezda*, using their own wages. Their efforts earned the facility the Order of Lenin for outstanding production achievements. Beyond the mechanical plant, other local enterprises repeatedly received the State Defense Committee’s Red Banner for their efficiency. By April 1945, the district’s contributions were formally acknowledged when it was awarded the Red Banner for permanent display. Legislators now argue that these acts of collective heroism justify the honorary title, ensuring the city’s wartime legacy endures in national memory.

The regional parliament’s resolution has been forwarded to the president for final approval. If granted, the title would recognise Bogorodsk’s role in supporting the war effort through industrial output and worker sacrifices. The decision rests with the federal government, following the submission of historical evidence and the assembly’s unanimous support.
