Camera Maker Leica Gets New CEO - Leica names Andreas Voll as new CEO amid record growth and leadership shift
Leica Camera AG has announced a change in leadership, with Andreas Voll set to take over as CEO in April 2025. He will replace Matthias Harsch, who has led the company since 2017 and whose contract ends in March. The transition comes as the premium camera brand continues to expand its market presence and revenue growth.
Under Matthias Harsch's leadership, Leica has seen significant success. The company achieved consecutive revenue records, with sales hitting €596 million in the latest fiscal year. Its market share in high-end compact cameras, such as the Q-series, grew from around 2% in 2020 to roughly 8% in 2025. This growth was driven by new models like the Q3 and Q3 43, improved sensors, and stronger partnerships, including one with DJI. Aggressive digital marketing also played a key role.
In late February 2025, Harsch unveiled the latest Leitz Phone at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, further expanding Leica's product range. The company, based in Wetzlar, Hesse, employs about 2,300 people globally and has benefited from a renewed demand for compact, high-quality cameras. Andreas Voll brings a wealth of experience in international management, premium technology, and brand strategy. His appointment follows rumours that majority owner Andreas Kaufmann and private equity firm Blackstone—which together hold 100% of the company—may be considering a sale of their stake. Kaufmann, who owns 55%, has not publicly addressed these reports.
Andreas Voll will step into the CEO role at a time when Leica is experiencing strong growth and expanding its product lineup. The company's focus on high-end compact cameras and strategic partnerships has boosted its market position. His leadership will begin as the brand continues to navigate a competitive industry.
