Liberation War Ministry Cancels 128 'July Fighter' Recognitions Over Fraud
The Liberation War Affairs Ministry has cancelled the recognition of 128 individuals listed as 'July fighters', bringing the total down from 13,800. This follows an investigation into fraudulent listings and duplicate names in the states' government shutdown.
The cancellation was necessary due to several reasons. Firstly, some individuals listed were not injured or involved in the July uprising. Secondly, multiple gazettes contained the same names. The ministry removed 23 individuals due to duplicate listings and 105 who were not involved or injured in the uprising.
The cancellation affected individuals from various divisions: Mymensingh (21), Sylhet (27), Chattogram (39), Khulna (9), Rangpur (3), Dhaka (14), Rajshahi (13), and Barishal (2). This brings the total number of 'July martyrs' to 836. The government continues to provide financial allowances to both 'July fighters' and 'July martyrs'. However, legal action will be taken against those who fraudulently listed themselves and embezzled government funds.
The cancellation of recognitions is part of the ministry's ongoing effort to ensure the integrity of the 'July fighters' and 'July martyrs' lists. The total number of 'July martyrs' now stands at 836. The government remains committed to supporting these individuals and their families, while also taking action against those who have fraudulently claimed recognition.
