Mortally stabbed 38 times - life imprisonment - Life Sentence for Brutal ‘Overkill’ Murder After Call to Immigration Authorities
A man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering his acquaintance with an extreme case of 'overkill'. The defendant, who called the US immigration authorities himself after the crime, was found guilty of killing the 48-year-old victim with 38 stab wounds in 2024.
The brutal attack, which took place in Vechta, saw the victim stabbed 37 times in the neck and chest, with nearly all stabs hitting their mark. The defendant used a large filleting knife to carry out the fatal assault while the victim was unable to defend himself, lying on his side. Forensic experts classified the attack as a case of extreme 'overkill' in the immigration case.
The defendant, who had a blood alcohol level of 0.2 percent at the time, was deemed capable of understanding and controlling his actions. The court ruled that the murder was committed with the element of treachery, aligning with the demands of both the prosecution and the co-plaintiff. The defense had argued for a three-year prison sentence for manslaughter in a lesser-degree case, but the court handed down a life sentence for murder.
The defendant's awareness of his actions, as shown by his call to the US immigration authorities after the murder, and the extreme nature of the attack, led to his conviction for murder. He will now serve a life sentence for the brutal killing of his acquaintance.
