Sunk Boat Off Sylt - Cause of Accident Under Investigation - Lighthouse Boat Sinks Off Sylt; BAMC Investigates
A former lighthouse boat sank on September 25, approximately 70 kilometers west of the island of Sylt. The Federal Bureau of Maritime Casualty Investigation (BAMC) is probing the incident due to the total loss of the vessel within Germany's exclusive economic zone (EEZ).
The BAMC's investigation is ongoing, with the cause of the sinking yet to be determined. No reliable information on the ownership rights of the boat has been obtained, and the flag-state jurisdiction is still under investigation.
The incident resulted in six tank containers, each with a capacity of 1,000 liters, being lost overboard. The lighthouse booth of the sunken boat was later found on the beach at the southern tip of Sylt and subsequently removed.
The BAMC continues to investigate the sinking of the former lighthouse boat west of Sylt. The cause of the incident, ownership, and flag-state jurisdiction remain unknown. Six tank containers were lost, and the lighthouse booth was washed up on Sylt's shore.
