Lithuania turns to Estonia and allies for consular aid in China
Lithuania is seeking help from neighbouring countries to support its citizens in China. The move comes as diplomatic tensions remain unresolved between Vilnius and Beijing. Officials have reached out to several nations for consular assistance while pushing for improved relations.
Foreign Minister Remigius Motuzas has contacted Latvia, Estonia, Poland, and Hungary in recent weeks. His goal was twofold: to explore ways of normalising ties with China and to secure consular backup for Lithuanians travelling there. Latvia and Estonia have since signalled willingness to provide such services.
For now, Lithuanians in China will depend on support from nearby embassies. The government continues to press for direct negotiations with Beijing. A resolution could hinge on broader economic interests and the future of Taiwan-related diplomatic naming.
