Lito Magno Named New NBI Officer-in-Charge After Santiago's Resignation
Angelito 'Lito' Magno has been appointed as the new Officer-in-Charge of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). The appointment comes after the resignation of former director Jaime Santiago, who stepped down due to efforts to tarnish his reputation.
Magno brings a wealth of experience to the role, having served in the NBI for decades. He began his career as a line agent and climbed the ranks to become Assistant Director for Legal Service and Deputy Director for Investigative Services. He has also led regional offices in Northern Mindanao and Central Luzon, overseeing high-profile cases involving human trafficking, organized crime, and financial fraud.
One of Magno's notable achievements was leading the operation that resulted in the arrest of former Bamban mayor Alice Guo in Indonesia. However, his career also saw a setback in 2002 when he was involved in a botched anti-drug operation in Mandaue City, where agents mistakenly pursued a van carrying Plantation Bay employees.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. accepted Santiago's resignation on October 27, 2025, paving the way for Magno's appointment. With his extensive experience and proven track record, Magno is expected to bring stability and continued effective leadership to the NBI.
