Little Birdie Brings Gourmet Chicken Sandwiches to Alexandria in 2026
A new chicken sandwich spot called Little Birdie is coming to Alexandria's Mount Vernon Avenue. Matthew Sloan and Eric Brannon, the team behind Matt & Tony's All Day Kitchen + Bar, have signed a lease for the space. They plan to open in June 2026 after completing renovations.
The restaurant will take over 1504B Mount Vernon Avenue, the former home of Benny DiForza's Pizza. Sloan, a one-time managing partner of Alexandria Restaurant Partners, has teamed up again with Brannon for this project. Their previous venture, Matt & Tony's, opened in 2022 and earned a RAMMY Award nomination.
Little Birdie will specialise in chicken sandwiches made with Pennsylvania-sourced poultry, served on Japanese milk buns. Prices will start at $15 for sandwiches, with shared plates ranging from $12 to $16 and entrées in the low $20s. The space will feature an open kitchen, offering both counter service and full-service lunch. The owners have applied for city approval to add 10 outdoor dining seats. If granted, the restaurant will operate from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and stay open until 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. The property is owned by local attorney Michael Hadeed.
Sloan and Brannon finalised their lease at the end of 2025. With renovations underway, Little Birdie is set to launch in June. The new eatery will join a growing list of dining options in Alexandria's Del Ray neighbourhood.
