Little Volunteer Fire Department Grows Stronger After Record Year of Service
The Little Volunteer Fire Department held its annual general meeting on January 9, 2026. Officials reviewed a busy year of operations, training, and promotions within the growing team. The department now has 83 members, including 57 active firefighters—seven more than in 2024.
During 2025, the team responded to 18 fires and 4 traffic accidents. They also deployed their drone on five separate occasions. In total, members contributed over 6,314 hours to training and other duties, a notable rise from the previous year.
The meeting saw several promotions. Nils Drechsel and Phil Spille advanced to Brandmeister, while Femke Schmidt became Hauptfeuerwehrfrau. Neele Drechsel was promoted to Oberfeuerwehrfrau, and Sönke Alberts, Janis Martens, and Janine Peters received new ranks as Feuerwehrmann and Feuerwehrfrau respectively. Attendees included Mayor Christoph Reents, District Fire Chief Maik Bäcker, and Deputy District Fire Chief Stephan Hartmann. Enno Lankenau of THW and Reiner Schröder of the County Firefighters’ Association were also present. The mayor and local fire chief awarded the Lower Saxony Flood Relief Medal to the department in recognition of their efforts. Fire Chief Tobias Hollmann reflected on the year’s achievements. He expressed satisfaction with the team’s growth and looked forward to 2026 with confidence.
The department’s membership has expanded, and training hours have increased. Their work in emergencies, including drone deployments, highlights their growing capabilities. With new promotions and recognition, the team enters 2026 on solid ground.
