Local Authority Exempts Assistance Dogs from Tax
The local authority has announced a significant change to its dog tax ordinance. In a move to support individuals with disabilities, the council has decided to exempt assistance dogs from the tax. This decision aligns with the authority's participation in the 'Assistance dog welcome' campaign since 2024.
Assistance dogs, clearly identified by their blankets and harnesses, are now granted access to all public buildings. These dogs, often referred to as 'Pfotenpiloten' in the campaign logo, are medical aids that perform crucial tasks for their human companions with various disabilities and chronic impairments. The exemption applies to people with invisible disabilities who rely on these dogs.
To benefit from this exemption, citizens can apply retroactively from October 1, 2025. All recognized assistance dogs are eligible. Applications can be submitted by contacting the Office of Accounting and Taxes via email at steuerveranlagungstadt-unserwebsite.de
The authority's decision to exempt assistance dogs from dog tax is a step towards creating a more inclusive environment. It acknowledges the vital role these dogs play in supporting individuals with disabilities and ensures they have the same access rights as people with regular street shoes.
