The image shows a group of children standing in front of a large room filled with chairs, tables, flags, and other objects. There are a few people sitting on the chairs and a few standing on the floor. On the right side of the image, there is a door and a staircase. The children appear to be participating in a national assembly, as indicated by the flags they are holding.

Local youth committee accidentally dissolves its election working group

A local youth committee in Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen has accidentally disbanded its Election Working Group. The move came after a vote by representatives of independent youth organisations. The decision was described as poorly considered and unintended.

The dissolution took place during a recent meeting of the Youth Committee. Members voted without fully assessing the consequences, leading to the group’s unexpected closure. No immediate plans for a new election or reappointment have been announced.

Meanwhile, the UNFCCC Election Working Group (EEG) remains active at an international level. As of January 9, 2026, its members include representatives from Switzerland, Australia, Poland, Italy, Sweden, Ukraine, Germany, and Belize. Nominations are still pending for regions such as Eastern Europe, Africa, and Asia-Pacific. For the upcoming COP 31, Mr. Elchin Allahverdiyev of Azerbaijan has been renominated as a member, with alternates from Armenia and Georgia. However, no fixed date has been set for these elections or for replacing the dissolved local group in Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen.

The Youth Committee’s vote has left the local Election Working Group without a clear path forward. While international bodies like the UNFCCC EEG continue their work, the local branch must now address the unintended gap. No timeline for a new election or reappointment has yet been established.
