Lörrach and Basel-Stadt Deepen Cross-Border Dialog
A delegation from Lörrach, Germany, recently met with Basel-Stadt’s Regional Commission to tackle shared cross-border challenges. The talks aimed to improve cooperation on issues like transport, employment, and regional projects. Both sides stressed the need for stronger ties between the neighbouring areas.
The meeting took place in Basel-Stadt, where the Regional Commission was led by its president, Daniel Niggi Rechsteiner. His team included 13 members, while the Lörrach delegation was headed by Mayor Jörg Lutz, with representatives from all political groups.
Key topics covered the labour market, mobility problems, and border crossing efficiency. The group also reviewed ongoing projects in Lörrach and discussed how joint efforts could address regional needs. Former Education Director Christoph Eymann, once part of Basel-Stadt’s executive, was not directly involved, though his past role highlights the canton’s experience in cross-border collaboration.
Lörrach officials underlined the value of regular dialogue for regional growth. Both delegations agreed to hold more exchanges in the future to build long-term cooperation.
The discussions marked a step toward closer coordination between Lörrach and Basel-Stadt. Future meetings will focus on practical solutions for transport, employment, and infrastructure. Regular exchanges are now planned to keep the partnership active and productive.
