Lörrach Council to Elect New Deputy Mayor in Secret Ballot
Lörrach City Council is set to elect a new full-time deputy mayor on March 26, 2026. Monika Neuhöfer-Avdić has been proposed for the role after a review of three candidates. The vote will follow a secret ballot, with the winner needing more than half of the votes to secure the position.
The Council of Elders examined all applications before discussing the candidates with the current deputy mayor, Neuhöfer-Avdić. Her nomination came after this review process. The position carries an eight-year term and falls under pay grade B6.
The election will proceed in rounds if no candidate gains an absolute majority in the first vote. The staff council will not participate in the decision-making process. Exact figures for the required votes remain unclear, as the number of eligible council members is not publicly specified. Neuhöfer-Avdić is the only candidate put forward for the professional deputy mayor role. The outcome will determine who holds the position until 2034.
The secret ballot on March 26, 2026, will decide Lörrach's next deputy mayor. If no candidate wins an outright majority, further voting rounds will take place. The successful appointee will serve an eight-year term in the B6 pay grade.
