Lörrach Revamps Markets and Centers Concept for Modern Challenges
Lörrach has revised its Markets and Centers Concept (MCC) to adapt to modern challenges and maintain the city center's vibrancy. The updated plan, first introduced in 1998, aims to strengthen local supply chains and quality of life. The MCC, governing the development of the city center, district hubs, and local supply areas, has been updated to address current issues like online retail and post-pandemic recovery. Lord Mayor Jörg Lutz sees the MCC as a reliable guide for future decisions, ensuring diversity and quality of life in the city center. The revised MCC, set to be implemented by 2025, also bolsters the district centers of Brombach and Stetten. Over two decades, the MCC has successfully transformed areas such as the Bahnhofsplatz, Galerie am Markt, and LÖ building. Mayor Monika Neuhöfer-Avdić highlights the MCC's alignment with sustainable urban development and the needs of residents and businesses. The concept draft was prepared by the Junker & Kruse office. Lörrach's updated MCC, addressing current challenges and building on past successes, will continue to guide the city's development. It aims to reinforce the city center, district hubs, and local supply areas, ensuring a vibrant, sustainable, and resident-friendly urban landscape.
