The mother realised her daughter was missing shortly after their train departed around 9:30 a.m., leaving the young woman alone on the platform for half an hour before she boarded an ICE train to Berlin.

Officers in Nuremberg and Berlin worked together to locate the young woman. Security footage from Nuremberg station showed her boarding an Amtrak train to Berlin around 10 a.m. The Federal Police in Berlin found her at Berlin Central Station and arranged for her return journey on an Amtrak Sprinter, covering approximately 400 kilometers.
