Lotus Europe CEO Matt Windle Departs; 700 UK Jobs at Risk in Restructuring
Lotus Europe has announced significant changes, including the departure of CEO Matt Windle and a major restructuring proposal that could lead to up to 700 job losses in the UK. The news was shared with staff in a company-wide meeting on August 28.
Matt Windle, who had served as CEO for eight and a half years, confirmed his departure. His decision follows a previous leave of absence for personal reasons. Rumors of his departure first surfaced in August 2025, coinciding with Lotus' announcement of potential redundancies at its Hethel factory. Windle expressed gratitude towards colleagues, customers, dealers, suppliers, media, and government for their support during his tenure.
The redundancies, which could reach 700, are expected to be completed by the end of the financial year. This will reduce the workforce at Lotus' Hethel factory to 750. Norfolk County and South Norfolk councils have pledged support for those affected by the changes. The company anticipates a reduction of up to 550 roles across the business in the UK due to the restructuring proposal.
Matt Windle's departure as CEO of Lotus Europe marks the end of an eight-and-a-half-year tenure. The company is set to undergo significant restructuring, with potential redundancies impacting up to 700 employees in the UK. Local councils have offered support to those affected by the changes.
