Low turnout and a mysterious ballot mark the lord mayor runoff
The runoff election for lord mayor has concluded with a turnout of just over a third of eligible voters. One ballot paper stood out—marked with symbols instead of a cross—and was ruled invalid. This decision slightly altered the final vote count but did not change the outcome.
A total of 23,072 residents cast their votes in the election, representing 39.2 percent of the 59,909 registered voters. Among the ballots, one was declared invalid because it contained symbols rather than the required cross. The identity of the voter responsible remains undisclosed.
The election results confirm Daniel Keip’s win, despite the low voter participation. The single invalid ballot had no effect on the final distribution of votes. Keip’s term as lord mayor is now set to begin in early 2026.
