Lower Saxony’s Parliament Glows with 30-Year Christmas Tradition
A festive Advent wreath has stood in Lower Saxony’s state parliament since last Wednesday. The display, complete with red baubles and four white candles, marks the start of the Christmas season in the portico hall. Outside, an eight-metre fir tree now shines with 180 metres of LED lights.
The tradition of bringing Christmas cheer to the parliament has lasted 30 years. Since 2020, the Evangelical Foundation Neuerkerode has provided the Advent wreath annually. This year, employees from the foundation set up the display and presented it to Parliament President Hanna Naber.
The decorations will remain in place throughout the festive period. Both the wreath and the tree serve as symbols of light during the winter season. Their presence reflects a long-standing partnership between the foundation and the state parliament.
