The Lübeck Christmas Market is open - Lübeck’s Iconic Kotka Christmas Tree Lights Up the Holiday Season
Lübeck’s Christmas market has officially opened, keeping with its long-standing traditions. The festive season began with a lantern procession leading to the Holstentor gate, where the city’s famous Kotka christmas tree now stands as a gift from its Finnish twin city.
The Kotka spruce, donated by the city of Kotka, has been a centrepiece of Lübeck’s christmas celebrations since 1969. Each year, residents decorate it with oversized baubles and holiday messages, adding to its charm. This year’s christmas tree continues the tradition, symbolising the close ties between the two cities.
The Kotka christmas tree will remain a focal point of Lübeck’s christmas market until the end of the month. With energy-saving lights and themed attractions, the event draws visitors from near and far. Organisers anticipate another busy season, continuing a tradition that spans over five decades.
