Lucia Borghs named new leader of Willich's Open All-Day School division
Lucia Borghs has been chosen as the new head of the municipal Open All-Day School (OGS) division. The 44-year-old will take over from Bernd Hitschler, who retires at the end of June 2023. Her appointment follows a public recruitment process with two shortlisted candidates.
Borghs began her career in public administration as a trainee with the city of Willich from 1999 to 2002. After qualifying as a senior non-technical civil servant, she joined the Social Basic Services team as a case officer in 2002.
Between 2005 and 2010, she worked on secondment at the ARGE Viersen district office. Later, she took on a leadership role at the Viersen District Job Center, overseeing team and benefits operations. Since 2013, she has managed the OGS division within Business Unit I/2. The selection process included presentations to the main committee on Tuesday. Both candidates were assessed before Borghs was confirmed for the role.
Borghs will now lead the OGS division permanently. Her experience in social services and operational management shaped her career before this promotion. She officially begins her new position after Hitschler's departure on June 30.
