Lüdenscheid Police Welcomes New Chief After 45-Year Veteran Retires

The Lüdenscheid police station has a new leader after Senior Police Chief Commissioner Volker Mürmann retired following 45 years of service. Taking his place is 55-year-old Thorsten Ausborn, a local officer with nearly four decades of experience. Ausborn officially became station chief on 1 July, stepping into a role with broad responsibilities, including managing patrols, enforcement strategies, and key relationships with municipal authorities. Volker Mürmann spent six years as head of the Lüdenscheid station before his retirement. His departure left the position open until Ausborn, a native of the city, was selected to replace him. The new chief brings 38 years of policing experience, including 15 years as a shift supervisor. Ausborn’s promotion comes as the station adapts to new leadership, with his decades of experience and local knowledge set to shape operations in the coming years.
